CitySprouts Garden

Gardens shedThe school garden at the Amigos School was constructed during summer 2012 by Amigos parents and CitySprouts volunteers when the school moved into the Upton Street building from Putnam Avenue, a few blocks away. The garden has a garden shed and compost bin and five raised garden beds including an herb garden, a perennial garden, a strawberry patch and three vegetable beds. Felted woolly pockets were added along the fence during spring 2014 to supplement the garden with greens and pollinators. The outdoor classroom garden serves this Spanish immersion school from kindergarten through 8th grade.

ZinniasCitySprouts is a school garden program founded on the principle that all children should experience hands-on learning with real-world applications, support and practice in making good food choices, and a life-long connection to the natural world. CitySprouts’ garden educator is at the Amigos school twice each week during the fall and spring to support teachers' lessons and projects in the school garden. Middle schoolers throughout the city participate in the CitySprouts Summer Program in July and August. CitySprouts has volunteer opportunities in the garden throughout the year, if you would like to get involved please email [email protected].
