Welcome to the Amigos Two-Way Bilingual School. When you drop off your children in the morning at Amigos, be prepared to say ‘Buenos Dias’ as you greet and meet with staff, friends, and families.
The mission of the Amigos School is to shape and build a strong Jrk – 8th grade dual language school, where students demonstrate the ability to learn content in two languages and become bilingual/biliterate. We expect our students to graduate from Amigos, highly prepared for the rigorous content of the high school and prepared to take Advanced Placement language courses in Spanish.
Our curriculum is aligned with the Common Core standards and the ELA, Math, Science and Social Studies frameworks of the Cambridge Public Schools. However, other innovative features, unique to two-way programs, are included - specifically, the continuous development of second language skills for students through all content areas. These skills and experiences, grounded in two-way research, are meaningful, additive, and developmentally appropriate.
The staff at Amigos is highly qualified and dedicated to creating a culturally responsive learning environment that embraces multiculturalism, student engagement, and equity. Amigos holds each and every student accountable to high social, academic, and linguistic standards, provides a curriculum that is rigorous and differentiated, and offers a range of supports to enable all students to be successful learners.
Amigos students are drawn from neighborhoods across the district, representing a wide variety of families in Cambridge. Our goal is to continue to create a student and family community that reflects the rich diversity of the city – economically, linguistically, and culturally. This diversity is important to us. While our two – way mission provides opportunities for students to develop high levels of reading, writing and oral skills in English and Spanish, they also develop a range of cultural competencies that will assist them in developing cross-cultural friendships and balancing diverse global perspectives in the 21st century.
Please come by and visit us! We look forward to meeting you! !Bienvenidos a la Escuela Amigos!
