The seventh graders have been having fun in Science and are nearly finished with their Physics Unit. They have measured the speed of wind-up toys as well as themselves. For the lab entitled “The Speed of Us”, the students measured their lab partner’s speed either running, throwing a ball or enjoying some other activity. They averaged the different trials, graphed the averages and wrote it all up in a formal lab report, complete with a lab conclusion. We are focusing on writing in the content area. The students are learning to make a claim, cite the evidence (data) and use reason to come to a conclusion. Our next set of lab investigations will cover the topic of energy, both kinetic and potential.
