7th grade students are examining several global social justice issues through the text
A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park and
Ecos del desierto by Silvia Dubovoy: resource access, the impact of displacement on individuals and cultures, issues around international resettlement, and the narratives that are communicated about these topics. Students have been reading and analyzing the central text and a variety of nonfiction texts to answer questions about the impact that the intersection of place, time, and experience have on our personal identities. After visiting the enthralling
Forced From Home exhibition on the global refugee crisis, students have also been developing ideas for projects they can work on to address issues facing refugees and displaced people.
