CitySprouts Garden

The courtyard garden at the King Open School was designed to support outdoor learning and ensure open, accessible use for all students. Raised beds are used to grow vegetables, herbs, and flowers throughout the school year. These beds serve as outdoor classrooms where students engage in hands-on science lessons and garden-based learning. With the support of teachers and CitySprouts Garden Educators, students plant, tend, and harvest the garden.

CitySprouts is a school garden program founded on the belief that all children should have the chance to explore science through hands-on, real-world experiences from an early age. By observing, experimenting, and discovering in the garden, students build a strong foundation in science learning and curiosity about the natural world.

A CitySprouts Garden Educator visits the King Open School every other week throughout the year. Garden Educators partner with the classroom teacher to engage students in investigations and projects.

CitySprouts also offers volunteer opportunities in the garden year-round. If you’d like to get involved, please email i[email protected].
