Hour of Code - Programming at grades K-8

Hour of Code - Programming at grades K-8
Posted on 01/13/2015
Hour of CodeStudents in grades Kindergarten through 8 at the Amigos school spent an hour programming computers as part of the Hour of Code week in December. Eighth grade students worked in pairs on a Khan Academy Java programming activity such as the one shown here learning how a series of typed programming commands can be used to make images on a screen. Kindergarteners programmed a KiBo robot to move around the rug, turn corners, rotate, and listen for the sound of clapping hands before turning on a light. Students in 2nd grade programmed an Angry Bird to navigate through a maze, while in 4th grade students spent several weeks learning to program in the Scratch environment.

We challenge you (yes we mean you!) to try out an hour of code. You never know - you may just love it!
