FrenchDespite our cold, snowy winter and amidst all of our Snow Days and February Vacation, our French studies have continued to make strides as we “think spring!” In French 8, students have been tackling several grammar concepts that allow them to begin to achieve a true working knowledge of everyday language. Since the New Year, 8th graders have learned the verbs être + avoir, family vocabulary, adjective vocabulary, possessive adjectives, how to describe family members in complete sentences, negation and the rules for adjective agreement. Next they will tackle French numbers and engage in a video series “Rendez-vous à Nice” which brings all they have learned to date into an authentic context.

French 7 just finished their study of the French numbers and the verb être, which helped them communicate about the day and date in French. They are now moving forward with the irregular verb “avoir” to express things like age, warmth, fear, hunger and thirst. Next we will learn how to tell time in French, as well as study the verb “faire” to help describe the weather as we transition into a new season ourselves!

In French 6, we have spent some time reviewing the two main irregular verbs (être + avoir) we have learned so far, including their uses, and have now progressed to adjective agreement. Next we will talk about the difference between definite and indefinite articles, as well as study our 3rd main irregular verb “faire” to help describe the weather.
