Hispanic Heritage Concert / Concierto de la Hispanidad
Posted on 01/09/2015
HeritageOur Hispanic Heritage Month concert, held on Nov. 21st was well attended by over 250 students, teachers, parents, and family members of the Amigos community. Ms. Sharon Hamel, our JRK – 8 choral teacher, choreographed all of the pieces and conducted students in a repertoire of songs for children at all grade levels reflecting the songs and music from Hispanic countries throughout the world.

The concert began with a parade of fourth graders who waved the flags of Spain, Latin America, and the United States and sang a reworking of the Canto de Amistad. Ms. Hamel recruited the extended family of the Amigos musicians to accompany the students, which made for a highly enjoyable and beautiful performance by Amigos students, teachers, and friends! Lastly, the newly created drum ensemble from the upper school performed a piece, accompanied by Ms. Hamel. Bravo to all of our singers and musicians at Amigos and to our continued celebration and appreciation of the diverse Hispanic communities at Amigos, their heritage, music and culture. And, a special thanks to Ms. Hamel for her efforts and creativity!

HeritageOur greatest strength as a school community is our partnership with our parents and families in working together to teach the skills necessary for students to become resilient and independent learners, who are able to cooperate and problem solve individually and in groups. We also want our students to become mindful in their attitudes toward social justice, diversity and cultural competency, and learn to appreciate, develop, and practice the habits of scholarship that are essential for all students in their goal of meeting the standards of the Common Core!
