The Amigos Upper School is a powerful bridge between our
students’ bilingual and bicultural K-5 experience, and the high school
years that lie ahead. Students in sixth through eighth grades take
English Language Arts, Math and Science in English, and Social Studies
and Spanish Language Arts in Spanish every day. They hone their reading,
writing, and critical thinking skills daily through a combination of
whole group activities, small group collaboration, and individual work.
An ‘upper school’ education at Amigos provides students with a strong
foundation in critical thinking, writing, and problem solving across the
curriculum. Students are given opportunities to engage in socially
responsible activities such as school council and community service.
Students at Amigos are socially and academically challenged and ready
for advanced level courses in Spanish and in other content areas.
We
consider ourselves to be a strong professional learning community that
is nurturing and one, which honors the individuality, strengths and
cultures of all our students. Whether it is bonding at The Farm School,
walking to MIT for amazing Science field trips, dancing joyously at City
Step performances, heading to New York City to celebrate its Hispanic
heritage, or bidding a tearful goodbye at the 8th grade graduation,
Amigos upper school students, teaches and administrators celebrate their
time together with mutual respect and affection.
