6th and 7th Grade English Language Arts: Book Reviews and Independent Reading

By Dacey Sartor

BooksWe are excited to be introducing a new feature to the Upper School newsletter this year—book reviews! Starting with this fall issue, read about the books students have loved (or not loved!) from their independent reading selections. Reading self-selected independent books is a core component of developing our individual skills, preferences, and strengths. Using the strategies and knowledge about author’s craft that we develop through reading model texts together in class, students apply their new expertise in their own independent reading through discussion, response writing, creative writing, and critique writing. We hope you enjoy the three reviews in this issue on the young adult novels Hold Tight, Don’t Let Go, Red Glass, and No Place. Check out future reviews for recommendations from our expert readers!
